A powerful new resource

A lot of my inspiration for workshops and blogs, and generally navigating life, come from Brené Brown. And she has just released a new book that I am devouring. ‘Braving the Wilderness’ is incredible so far (I’m two chapters in). Brené is talking about how we can navigate the world in a simultaneously connected and independent way.

It’s an area I have personally been reflecting on for quite some time. As an introvert I need time alone to reflect and process the world around me, but I also need connection with people, and not just any kind of connection, deep and authentic connection. For me it’s about making sure I have the space to be me without going into an isolated space where I speak to no one about how I’m feeling for an extended period of time, whilst also making sure I don’t spend too much time in social situations, particularly if I don’t feel connected to those around me in some way. It’s a balancing act, and it helps to have someone as switched on as Brené Brown to help me make sense of it.

She doesn’t solely talk about these ideas. She talks about belonging, and how we can belong to ourselves. She talks about how we spend so much time trying to be part of a group or a community without taking the time to really know and learn ourselves.

It is so important to take the time to self reflect, to work out who you are and what you want and the feelings you’re experiencing. It’s so important to take ownership of your journey through life, because otherwise you just end up on other peoples’ rides.

Take ownership of your journey, work out what you want, find a way to belong to yourself. And, as a starter, check out Brené’s recent interview with Marie Forleo.

I’d love to hear what you think.

Sending love, Hannah
